The Many Colours of Aritzia

Resist the urge to go neutral this season with tired white, black and grey.  Ignore every fashion instinct you’ve ever had.  This season colour is the new black.  Pops of brights, neons, pastels are everywhere and we couldn’t be happier.

Aritzia is a great place to add colour to your wardrobe without spending a fortune.  They have tops, blazers, and pants in an assortment of hues and styles.  Mix and match your brights,  pair two different pastels together, or throw on a colourful skirt with a neutral top and you are stylin.  If you are not ready to go bold on top and bottom, pair this silk mid length black skirt with a colourful tank top tucked in.  It also comes in nude.

This cobalt blue silk tank looks great with wide jeans and platform sandals.  Throw a bright pink , or yellow fitted blazer on top and you will look like you just stepped out of a magazine.

This coral silk mini dress is great. We love it with a black blazer on top or a leather jacket.  Or pair it with this neutral pink collarless blazer and mix and match your hues.

Mint green is a huge colour trend this season.  This tank dress is stunning with simple flat sandals and a great hat for day, or throw on jacket and platform ankle boots and edge it up for night.

This neon orange button halter tank is amazing with wide jeans or wear it open over a tank top as a vest.  It comes in a multitude of colours.

Ice blue is one of our favourite pastel shades this season.  This tank is effortless and looks great with everything.

This bright yellow cropped jacket is a must-have and can be worn with almost any colour.

Don’t believe us, let’s turn to the celebs and see what they’re wearing.

Bold pink, raspberry and green are staples for the celeb set when it comes to formal occasions.  Every day street wear gets a different treatment of colour.  Sarah Jessica Parker colour blocks with bright lavender and red.  Rosie Huntington wears pale yellow, and layers with an over-sized jacket and a neutral peach top.  Brightly hued pants are worn with basic black.

So get on board with the new “it” colours this season and find the shade you’ll shine in.

To Boldly Go Where Few Have Gone Before

There are so many ways to incorporate some of the hottest spring and summer trends into your wardrobe, but if you dare to be different try some of these bold new looks.

Pointy toe heels aren’t just for night time.  Pair yours with cropped pants and a funky jacket to ramp up your daytime look.

Pair an envelope skirt with a tucked in tee or tank but add a utility jacket to edge up the look.

Add a bright scarf in shocking neons, or brights to any outfit to be a true standout this spring.

Another hot trend this season is print.  Printed pants, shorts, tops, jackets, anything goes.  You may tend to wear one print per outfit and play it safe.  Step out of your comfort zone this season, and throw on a printed top with a different printed jacket.  People will stop and stare but in a good way.

      Spring Summer Trends 2012

There are so many different exciting new fashion trends this season.  Which one’s will you incorporate into your wardrobe and which one’s will you avoid?

One of our favourite’s this season are Bright Sorbet Colours.  Tangerine has been touted as the new black.  I love the lemon yellow, as well as the bright pink hues.  If you’re not ready to jump head first, try a tank with a black jacket over top or a bright bag to ease into this bold new look.

Graphic prints are also all over the runway and streets this season.  We adore this muted colour-blocked dress from BCBG.  Derek Lam also does Graphic Prints to perfection with this asymmetrical black and white skirt with the graphic tank.

Buttoned down Collars alone or under a cardi or button down are still very in right now.  Pair the tucked in collared shirt with a brightly hued pencil skirt or channel your retro fashionista with the short sleeved version.

What’s Black and White and worn all over?  The newest trend this season.   We love the white vest thrown over a black mini dress, or a black and white blazer with black and white pants and an asymmetrical shirt.

Pastels are also huge this season.  Pinks, Lilacs, yellows, mint green and blue.  Try a monochromatic look as scene below or throw on a pastel blazer to ramp up your look.

Printed pants are all the rage this season.  They are not for every body type though.  It is a trend to wear with caution.  We like a cropped printed pant paired with a simple white, black, grey, tank or tee.

You Can Get it At Zara

Floral Pants are so “of-the-moment” and are a fun trend for the Spring and Summer.  These Jbrand pair are adorable but pricey at $210.83.  The Zara floral pants are $79.90.  Can you tell which one’s which?

These sporty inspired black pants with a white stripe are great for daytime with a white tank, flats and a jean jacket or fabulous for night time with a great pair of heels.  Can you tell which one’s are the Elizabeth & James pair for $370.00 and which are the Zara pair at $59.90?

Helmut Lang is notorious for their asymmetrical leather jacket in neutral tones.  Can you pick out the $825 jacket or the Zara doppleganger for $269?

Floral and printed blouses are also huge for this season.  Equipment makes a great one at $189.00.  At Zara you can get it for a very reasonable $59.90.  Which one’s which?

          Street Chic

          Yesterday we caught a glimpse into Spring with some unbelievable weather which for some may pose a clothing dilemma.    Too hot for cashmere and wool but not quite warm enough for barely there clothing, this woman got it just right.  Not only is she dressed appropriately for the weather, she is spot on in terms of her style.  She is notorious for putting a great look together without spending a fortune.  Let’s break it down;

Her suede ankle boots are by Sam Edelstein and are $100.00

The coloured jeans which are very “of-the-moment” are Rag & Bone, and are $140.00

The jean shirt, is from H&M and was only $19.99

The black scarf, $34.00 from American Apparel

The Marc Jacobs sunglasses were $125.00

And the lightweight bomber jacket is from Topshop

This Budgetista proves that you don’t have to spend a fortune to look chic.

            The New “it” Accessory

Channel your inner Alexa Chung with the newest “it” accessory, the peter-pan collar.  Its the menswear inspired look with a twist.  Versions range from the over-sized, to the prim and proper, to the detachable seen here.  This new fab item is popping up everywhere and looks great under a cardi, under a blousy grey sweater, or with a blazer, or wear it under a fitted top and a full skirt for that prep school look.  Go glam with the embellished chain, or sequined versions, or if you’re not quite ready to be so bold, try the simple white version from Carven.  My personal fave is, the leopard faux fur collar by Akira Black Label.  Rock the ultimate statement piece and bring style to your everyday wardrobe without spending a fortune. The Akira Black Label faux fur collar is only $34.95.  The white sequined collar from Zara is $25.90.  Forever 21 makes the vintage lace version and it’s $9.80.  If you love the look and want to invest more, try the chain version from DannijoThe Stella Bib is $495.00.   Embrace your nerd chic style and add the collar to your shopping wish list.

                The Oscars, 2012

The fashion at the Oscars last night didn’t disappoint.   Simple elegance was a running theme.   The true standouts of the evening shimmered all on their own with the focus on the gowns themselves, as most had forgone the expensive flashy jewelry.

Navy was one of the “it” colours of the night and an alternative to basic black.  Tina Fey and Leslie Mann wore their gowns to perfection.  Tina Fey’s peblum bodice Carolina Hererra was stunning and her glam up-do and purple stoned earrings complemented the look. Leslie Mann’s sequined navy Roberto Cavalli was also elegant.

Shades of Red was also a theme last night.  Michelle Williams looked ethereal in her tangerine strapless peplum gown by Louis Vuitton, and Emma Stone who has emerged as a front-runner for style icon here at hush, glowed in her vintage inspired fuchsia Giambattista Valli couture.

A range of Green hues ruled the awards last night as well from Berenice Bejo’s mint green beaded Elie Saab to Viola Davis’ emerald green Vera Wang.  But it was Glenn Close who stood out the most in her hunter green Zac Posen strapless with the fitted tuxedo blazer.

Rooney Mara surprised most with her elegant white lace Givenchy gown.  The stark contrast between the innocent white lace and the severe black hair with cropped bangs, and red lips was edgy yet retained its glamour quotient.

                  An Affordable Balmain Line

The new Pierre Balmain Diffusion line launched in Paris, bringing with it lots of easy-wearing rock-inspired classics — moto jackets, tees, and skinny jeans — for Spring 2012. Priced from $172 (for tops) to $1,300 (for evening wear), the collection is about 90% cheaper than its main line.  A fan favourite of celebrities like Kristen Stewart, Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Lopez and Emma Watson to name a few, the line is coveted by the fashion set and while not cheap, it is now much more readily available to the masses.

                    Street Style International

Since the weather right now limits our street chic style to a puffy jacket and bundled up look,  here at Hush we wanted to see what other people all over the world were wearing on the streets, so we can get a little inspiration for the upcoming warmer months ahead.

I love the patterned skirt with the over-sized fur during the colder climates.  I am obsessed with these printed Capri’s with the lips.  This is a great spring look.

                    Milan Street Style

The printed pants are all the rage in Milan too.  Here she pairs hers with a neon pink blouse and blazer.  Love it.

                    Paris

This is a great day look.  Just roll up your jeans and throw on an over-sized sweater, pair with a chunky necklace and great flats for an effortless chic style.
