Celebrity Style

Jennifer Lopez/Style Icon

Jennifer Lopez is our pick for the most stylish celebrity.  The American Idol judge, 42, who has changed her look dramatically through the years, can pull off just about any hot trend. Each week on the show we are mesmerized by her style and beauty.  She is elegant and graceful yet always chic with an edge.  She is a chameleon who looks just as good with her hair pulled high in a bun with bright red lips as she does with her hair wavy and messy and a natural makeup look.  What makes her iconic in our books is that she doesn’t give in to the idea that you have to dress a certain way when you hit a certain age.  She can rock an ab bearing Herve Leger better than anyone.  She plays with colours, styles and a variety of silhouettes.   The Catherine Malandrino leather long-sleeved cut-out is a standout.  She sparkled in a Lanvin pleated lame maxi skirt with a white top.  This white halter Gucci jumpsuit with a gold belt and matching strappy sandals has a retro seventies vibe but with a glam modernized look.  We can’t wait to see what she will wear next.

    The Fashion at Coachella

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival began Friday, April 13, 2012  This festival is as much about fashion as it is about music, from flowy maxi skirts to floral printed minis, faded cutoffs, fringe, floppy hats, and fab ankle boots .  Here at Hush we give you a peek into the festival’s best dressed.

We love Kate Bosworth’s easy breezy hippie-chic style.  Her Isabel Marant ankle boots complete the look.  The native inspired jewels and belt buckle ramp up this effortless outfit.  Lily Allen went for a flowy printed dress and juxtaposed the relaxed look with a classic purse.

Lea Michelle looks hot in this crisp white shirt dress with the pop of tangerine underneath.  The platform sandals elevate this from a bathing suit cover-up to a fab daytime outfit.

Nina Dobrev and co-star Ian Somerholder are not only a smouldering couple but are perfectly dressed for the event.  We love Ian’s fedora and tank with the pinstriped pants and boots.  Nina’s snake-print flat sandals and feather earrings are the perfect complement to her tangerine summer dress.

      The New “it” Accessory

Channel your inner Alexa Chung with the newest “it” accessory, the peter-pan collar.  Its the menswear inspired look with a twist.  Versions range from the over-sized, to the prim and proper, to the detachable seen here.  This new fab item is popping up everywhere and looks great under a cardi, under a blousy grey sweater, or with a blazer, or wear it under a fitted top and a full skirt for that prep school look.  Go glam with the embellished chain, or sequined versions, or if you’re not quite ready to be so bold, try the simple white version from Carven.  My personal fave is, the leopard faux fur collar by Akira Black Label.  Rock the ultimate statement piece and bring style to your everyday wardrobe without spending a fortune. The Akira Black Label faux fur collar is only $34.95.  The white sequined collar from Zara is $25.90.  Forever 21 makes the vintage lace version and it’s $9.80.  If you love the look and want to invest more, try the chain version from DannijoThe Stella Bib is $495.00.   Embrace your nerd chic style and add the collar to your shopping wish list.

        The Oscars, 2012

The fashion at the Oscars last night didn’t disappoint.   Simple elegance was a running theme.   The true standouts of the evening shimmered all on their own with the focus on the gowns themselves, as most had forgone the expensive flashy jewelry.

Navy was one of the “it” colours of the night and an alternative to basic black.  Tina Fey and Leslie Mann wore their gowns to perfection.  Tina Fey’s peblum bodice Carolina Hererra was stunning and her glam up-do and purple stoned earrings complemented the look. Leslie Mann’s sequined navy Roberto Cavalli was also elegant.

Shades of Red was also a theme last night.  Michelle Williams looked ethereal in her tangerine strapless peplum gown by Louis Vuitton, and Emma Stone who has emerged as a front-runner for style icon here at hush, glowed in her vintage inspired fuchsia Giambattista Valli couture.

A range of Green hues ruled the awards last night as well from Berenice Bejo’s mint green beaded Elie Saab to Viola Davis’ emerald green Vera Wang.  But it was Glenn Close who stood out the most in her hunter green Zac Posen strapless with the fitted tuxedo blazer.

Rooney Mara surprised most with her elegant white lace Givenchy gown.  The stark contrast between the innocent white lace and the severe black hair with cropped bangs, and red lips was edgy yet retained its glamour quotient.

          An Affordable Balmain Line

The new Pierre Balmain Diffusion line launched in Paris, bringing with it lots of easy-wearing rock-inspired classics — moto jackets, tees, and skinny jeans — for Spring 2012. Priced from $172 (for tops) to $1,300 (for evening wear), the collection is about 90% cheaper than its main line.  A fan favourite of celebrities like Kristen Stewart, Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Lopez and Emma Watson to name a few, the line is coveted by the fashion set and while not cheap, it is now much more readily available to the masses.

            The 2012 Golden Globes-Best & Worst Dressed

Last night at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards,  there were some amazing dresses on display.  Of all of the gowns, my pick for best dressed of the night, was definitely Emma Stone.  She was a standout in her stunning Lanvin dress with the vintage stone embellished belt and plunging neckline.  The combination of fuchsia and plum tulle with the thigh high slit made her look like a true celebrity and style icon.

Mila Kunis was gorgeous last night in this black Dior stunner.  Her elegantly pulled back hair and the Cartier accessories were the ideal complement to the gown.

Kristen Wiig is hilarious and one of my favourite comedic actresses.  Last night she pulled off one of the most elegantly dressed at the show.  Her Bill Blass gown with Fred Leighton gold accessories was simple but also so flattering.

The fishtail bottom gown, seemed to be all over the red carpet last night.  Sofia Vergara looked beautiful in her navy Vera Wang version.

Sunny yellow is a big trend for Spring 2012.  Paula Patton was so “0f-the moment,” in her gown.  She looked refreshing and beautiful in her dress.

Charlize Theron wins for the most dramatic dress of the evening.  This Dior Couture gown with the plunging neckline, thigh high slit, flowing train and over-sized bow was the essence of Hollywood glamour.

Stylist wanted: Amongst the misses last night, three stood out as the worst.  Sarah Michelle Gellar allowed her 2 year old daughter to choose her Monique L’huillier tie-dye disaster and it was obvious.  Sometimes it’s okay to say “no” to your kids.  Nicole Kidman wore a clingy dress with gold studded detail that came off as tacky, and Meryl Streep missed the mark in this cowboy inspired shirt dress.

              Who Wore It Best

Alexa Chung, Ivanka Trump and Kirsten Dunst all rocked the same Rebecca Taylor frock but Kirsten Dunst works it the best with her casual black blazer, ankle boots and over-sized Louis Vuitton Duffle bag.  This is casual chic at its best.  The dress looks too pretty on Ivanka and doesn’t suit her body type.  Alexa Chung looks great in her dress paired with Miu Miu sparkle and suede booties.

While Alexa Chung looks great in this black lace-sleeved velvet Emilio Pucci dress, the shoes overwhelm the outfit and make it look a bit too severe.  Jessica Chastain has it right with her platform pumps, simple diamond drop earrings and her hair pulled back.

We adore this McQ tartan Puffball dress.  Both celebs look youthful and funky.  Chloe Moretz paired hers with ankle boots and socks for a school girl appeal and Emma Watson edged it up with pointy toe heels and a rocker leather jacket.

                The 2011 Emmy Awards

There were a few standouts last night at the 2011 Emmy Awards and only a few misses.  Here are our pics for the best and the worst dressed:

Claire Danes, Katie Holmes, Sophia Vergara

Claire Danes was glowing in her mixed metallic sparkler.  She looked elegant and youthful.  Katie Holmes was breathtaking and ethereal in her cobalt gown.  With simple makeup and her hair artfully pulled back she was breathtaking last night.  Sophia Vergara looked sexy and vibrant in her “of-the-moment” red Vera Wang gown.

Lea Michele radiated in her red floor-length Marchesa gown with the scoop back.

                Julie Bowen

Julie Bowen was a true standout in her metallic animal print gown with the plunging neck line.  Her hair pulled back in a long side pony tail complemented the look.

                Gwenyth Platrow

Gwenyth always looks stunning but I think she missed the mark in this stomach bearing Pucci dress.  She definitely has the body to pull it off but I think that less is more in this case.

Although, Melissa McCarthy from Mike & Molly is cute as a button, this dress is a big purple miss. It’s a whole lot of heavy purple material.  It would have worked better in a lighter gauzier or silky fabric, with a three quarter sleeve perhaps.

Amy Poehler is one of the funniest actresses right now and running up on stage last night before the winner was announced was legendary, her Peter Som dress though, is utterly forgettable.  The shiny blue metallic clings in all the wrong places.

Juliana Marguelis is a fabulous actress but her dress is a disaster.  The material was too shiny and I’m not so sure about those huge crystal raindrops on the top.  This Good Wife is a Bad dresser.

                  Celebrity Style- Melanie Laurent

Ever since seeing the Quentin Tarantino film Inglorious Bastards, I have been following incredible french style of Melanie Laurent, the movie’s beautiful heroine.

During the movie she was seen sporting androgynous styles as well as stunning gowns and feminine dresses.

In real life the young starlet who claims Dianne Kruger and Marion Cotilliard as two of her BFF’s, rocks a french urban chic look that is unmistakeable.

Often seen sitting front row at Chloe, Sonia Rykiel and Marc Jacobs shows, Laurent has a unique style that brings vintage looks together with fresh new designs and styles.

Like many of our favorite style icons, Melanie typically leaves her hair unpolished and tousled for that undone look, which works perfectly for her.

At Hush we believe that Melanie Laurent has only just begun her rise as a celebrity style maven who is sure to bring her fresh french look mainstream.

                    Style Icon: Jessica Hart

The up-and-coming model is a fashion inspiration, a fan of Louis Vuitton, Isabel Marant, Valentino and Fendi, Jessica is a fashion trendsetter and has effortless chic style.  She dresses down a maxi dress and leather jacket with a pair of converse sneakers and looks fab.  She can throw her hair up in a messy bun on top of her head and she looks put together and stylish.  Her famous gap-toothed smile, reminiscent of Lauren Hutton has made her famous.   Since moving to New York City in 2008, the Aussie stunner has modeled for Guess, Sports Illustrated H&M and has appeared in several episodes of Whitney Port’s The City.   She has also become one of Victoria’s Secret’s go-to models over the last year.  Her style is glamour mixed with a downtown edge.  She is my new favourite model of the moment.
